Professor Pedro Berliner's Bio:
Prof. Pedro Berliner, the director of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and incumbent of the Benjamin Schwartz Chair in Agricultural
Biology, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was the founding director of the Wyler Department of Dryland Agriculture and is presently a member of French Associates Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands.
From 2006 to 2009 Berliner served as the director of the Blaustein Center for Scientific Cooperation. His main research interest is the efficient use of water in rainfed agricultural systems and forests planted in drylands. In addition to BGU, he has held a research post in South Africa and was a visiting professor in Spain, Japan and Mexico and is a member of the Israeli delegation to the Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention for Combating Desertification.
